    Polestar, known for its electric cars, has officially introduced its first smartphone: the Polestar Phone. The device will likely only be available in China and will be particularly appealing to Polestar car owners.
    Polestar Phone Officially Presented
    When you think of Polestar, smartphones probably don't come to mind right away. The company is most recognized as an electric car manufacturer. For instance, we spoke with Anya Ernest about the integration of Android Automotive in the Swedish manufacturer's vehicles.
    Despite this, Polestar has now unveiled its first smartphone in China: the Polestar Phone. This move is largely in response to Huawei's and Xiaomi's plans to delve into electric car production themselves. The goal is to provide seamless integration with Polestar cars and dissuade users from transitioning to the competitors' ecosystems.
    High-End Specifications
    The Polestar Phone boasts high-end features including a 6.8-inch OLED screen with a long 21:9 aspect ratio, similar to the Sony Xperia 1 V. The 120Hz refresh rate ensures smooth images, and the display's brightness of 1850 nits allows for easy readability in all conditions.
      The device is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip for excellent performance, with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Additionally, Polestar promises several AI functions, such as image generation and text summarization.
    The 5050 mAh battery charges wirelessly at up to 50 watts, but the wired charging speed is yet to be disclosed. The phone features a 50MP main camera, a 13MP wide-angle lens, and a 10MP telephoto lens on the back, along with a 32MP front camera for selfies.
    The Polestar Phone was developed in collaboration with the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Meizu and shares identical specifications with the Meizu 21 Pro. Emphasis is placed on the phone's minimalist design, with thin screen borders and a simple appearance. Weighing 214 grams, it is IP68-certified for water and dust resistance and only available in white.
    Only in China?
    For now, the Polestar Phone will only be officially released in China, likely a response to Huawei's and Xiaomi's plans. Priced at over $1,000, its availability in the Netherlands seems unlikely at this time.

    Without any fanfare, Samsung has released the new Galaxy C55 smartphone in China. Budget devices are typically released within the C-series, but this time we have a very interesting device that can outshine models from the older A-series.

    The Samsung Galaxy C55 stands out for its design with a back cover stylized in leather. The manufacturer does not specify the material, so it could be artificial leather or plastic, similar to the old Galaxy Note3. However, the general appearance of the smartphone is in line with all 2024 brand models.
    On the front, the new product features a 6.7-inch flat Super AMOLED+ display with a resolution of 2400x1080 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and a brightness of 1000 nits. This screen also includes a built-in fingerprint scanner and a 50-megapixel selfie camera, along with three cameras on the back - a 50-megapixel main camera with f/1.8 aperture and optical stabilization, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 2-megapixel camera, all supporting 4K video recording.

    The smartphone runs on a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor and comes with either 8 or 12 GB of RAM. It offers 256 GB of storage, expandable via microSD card up to 1TB. Powering the device is a 5000 mAh battery with 45 W fast charging support for excellent battery life.
    Additional features of the Galaxy C55 include stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support and NFC support for contactless payments.
    This new product is already available in China at a price of $275 for the 8 + 256 GB version, and $319 for the 12 + 256 GB version.

    A prototype image has recently surfaced, causing quite a buzz among Sony fans.
    As we dive into Sony's latest developments, particularly the Xperia 5 II, it's clear that this model is heavily geared towards gamers. With features like 240Hz motion blur reduction, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 240Hz touch sampling rate, it sets a new standard for mobile gaming.
    This year’s release of the PlayStation 5 has elevated expectations for gaming-centric smartphones. Consequently, rumors about a potential successor to the Xperia Play have been rampant.
    In a surprising turn of events, a prototype resembling the Xperia Play 2 has been discovered. Initially posted on Reddit, the prototype was found for sale on a Chinese personal trading app. This discovery showcases the nostalgic Sony Ericsson logo, bringing back memories for long-time fans.
    For context, here’s an image of the original Xperia Play, which was released back in 2011. While the new prototype's design is somewhat more modern, it still retains a vintage charm.
    To give some background, Sony Ericsson was rebranded as Sony Mobile in 2012 after becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony. If Sony Ericsson had continued as it was, the Xperia Play 2 would likely have been released around 2012 or 2013.
    Interestingly, the Xperia Play series might have continued as a regular lineup, similar to the Z and ZX series, if not for the merger with Ericsson. The last Xperia released in Japan under the Sony Ericsson name was the XPERIA acro HD, which shares a similar design aesthetic on the back.
    This discovery of the Xperia Play 2 prototype offers a fascinating glimpse into what could have been a continuing legacy of gaming smartphones from Sony.
