Qualcomm's new chip aims to bring 5G smartphone to more users

Qualcomm has announced a brand-new Snapdragon chip, the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2, that aims to bring 5G to the masses. The company says its new chip is designed for phones that are priced around the $100 mark. Let us look at what the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 has to offer.

Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 features and specifications

The Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 is an entry-level smartphone chipset with gigabit 5G connectivity. It is made on Samsung Foundry's 4nm process node. It has an octa-core CPU featuring two Cortex-A78 CPU cores clocked at 2GHz and six Cortex-A55 CPU cores clocked at 1.8GHz. It has the Adreno 611 GPU that can drive smartphone screens with Full HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate.

It is compatible with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.

Its dual-12-bit Spectra image signal processor (ISP) is compatible with up to 84MP resolution camera sensors. It can process feeds from two 13MP camera sensors simultaneously with zero shutter lag or a single 25MP camera sensor with zero shutter lag. It is capable of recording 1080p (Full HD) 60fps videos or 720p (HD) 120fps slow-motion videos.

Connectivity features include sub-6GHz 5G network support with up to 1Gbps theoretical download speeds. It also supports 5G dual-SIM dual-standby. Other connectivity features of the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 include GPS, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, and USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port.

It supports Qualcomm's Quick Charge 4+ fast charging standard, but it is up to smartphone manufacturers to implement it.
